It’s the little things! Star Wars superfan Candace Payne treated herself to a Chewbacca mask for her birthday and couldn’t stop laughing when she tried it on. Luckily, she caught the hilarious moment on camera — and quickly became a viral star.
“Hey, I’m really excited to share with you something I got,” Payne says at the beginning of her video — which already has more than 58 million views — as she claps with a huge smile on her face.
Clad in a Death Star T-shirt, she jokes, “I’d like to say that I bought this [mask] for my son that would really, really want it — and let’s be honest, he’ll probably [confiscate] it from me. However, this is mine. When it’s said and done, at the end of the day, this is mine that I bought, and I’m gonna keep it for my own.”
When the mom of two finally puts on the disguise, she opens up her mouth to reveal that the mask purrs like Chewbacca. After a few seconds, she bursts into uncontrollable laughter for a minute and 40 seconds straight.
“Oh, I’m such a happy Chewbacca!” she exclaims between contagious chuckles.
The comical viral clip even caught the attention of Peter Mayhew, the actor who plays the iconic Star Wars character. “Absolutely wonderful!” he commented on a Reddit post of the video.
But it was Payne herself who summed up the moment perfectly: “It’s the simple joys in life.”
