Mike Trout started playing baseball with the Ripken League and the Little League. He earned five letters and played baseball and basketball for Millville Senior High School. He was a pitcher and shortstop before shifting to the outfield during his senior year with the team.
He committed to play for the East Carolina University baseball team. Trout played travel ball for the Tri-State Arsenal. He has also played in several tournaments with the Arsenal. He was selected 25th overall by the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim during the 2009 MLB Draft.
Trout played for the Angels' minor league affiliate, Arizona League's Arizona Angels. During his stint with the team, he made a .360 hit with a .418 OBP and .506 SLG, and 1 home run.
